What to do when you’re lacking self-confidence in your permanent makeup skills

Sometimes, its natural that we doubt ourselves and our professional ability. And that’s completely okay! Without days like these, we’d never push ourselves to learn more and improve our skills. We all have bad days where we feel that the world is against us and no matter what we do, we don’t get the results that we feel we should be getting.

On days like these, it’s important to sit back and figure out what we can do to help ourselves to feel positive once again. Here are our top tips to help you get through those low-confidence days.

1. Sit back and reflect

Our trainers tell all of our students “keep the first brows that you ever draw.” This is so they can look back on them and see just how much they’ve improved and how far their skills have come. Progression can make you feel great and a visual aid really helps you to see how much

2. Go back to school

Knowledge is power, so empowering yourself with more is never a bad thing. If there’s an area of your work that you don’t feel confident within, go back to school to learn more about it. Whether that be a short course, an evening class or a comprehensive training course with a new certification. Not only does learning more make you feel better and be able to provide a better service, it’s also great for personal enrichment and a wonderful way to make new, like-minded friends.

3. Take a break

Sometimes we need to simply walk away and take a break in order to refresh ourselves and recharge our batteries. Taking a break can often bring the inspiration needed to see things clearly once again. Go somewhere that inspires you and re-ignites your zest for life – perhaps art galleries are your thing, or even a walk along the beach. Or it could simply be spending time out with those you love and enjoying a meal or evening out. Whatever it may be, it’s important to take the time for yourself to recharge your batteries and come back feeling refreshed.

4. Set realistic goals

Setting goals is a great way to motivate yourself and ensure that you reach your business (or even personal) goals. When setting goals, it’s important to make them realistic. It’s about gently coaching yourself and putting plans in place to grow year on year. Write down your end goal, then work backwards detailing what you need to do to reach it. Perhaps you’d like to start offering medical tattooing on top of your regular permanent makeup work. To do this, you’d need to enrol on a course and go through the training process. Before you can enrol, you’ll need to find the perfect course for you and consider your finances, the time it will take and whether you will need to make arrangements for things like childcare. Plan in detail and have a time limit on when you’d like to achieve each stage. Not only does this way of working give you a great sense of achievement, but it also ensures that you are constantly moving forward personally and professionally.
